Hi all,
Well, we are a
couple of months into the season now and if you want to compete at the
Nationals in Hamilton over Easter you should be looking at completing your
qualifying meetings.
To race at
Nationals you have to race at 3 ‘NQMs’ (National Qualifying Meetings). If you
look at the back of your green rule book, there will be the racing calendar and
beside selected meetings there will be written NQM, so choose which ones you
are interested in doing and keep an eye out for a flyer.
Some of our
‘die hard’ racers have just been to Taupo over Labour Weekend for the North
Island Champs, results are as follows:

Taupo was also
the scene of the Australian Test Teams thrashing the New Zealand Teams. Seniors
(16 and over) and the Mighty 11’s both suffered defeat. In October each year
the selected teams from Australia travel here and race our guys at the North
Island Champs, and in June each year our teams go to Tamworth, Australia to
race them. The selections for the Kiwi riders going to Australia is on Easter
Friday preceding the National Champs. For those new to the sport the Mighty
11’s qualifying age is 11 years old on a set date prior to the event in NZ or
Aussie. Details in the green rules book.
Congratulations
to our own Wyatt Clinch on making the Mighty 11’s team and representing New
Zealand at Taupo. We look forward to other East City riders achieving this goal
of representing NZ in the Mighty 11’s.
There
has been comment on the delayed starting time on club nights. In our points hut
ladies’ defence, it is often difficult juggling the many jobs of check in –
groupings, hireage of bikes etc.
We are,
however, working on a new system. When you hire a bike etc you will receive a
chit that you then take over to the container and somebody will help you sort
out what you require. Please remember bikes can only be hired 2 nights in a row
unless they haven’t all been hired out and there is one left available.
It would also
speed things up if riders have the correct change and know what their number
plate number is (all riders need one!)
Check in will
CLOSE at 6.20. Racing will start at 6.30. Anyone missing check in at that time
will join racing in the 2nd round. That’s the plan anyway!
Speaking of
flyers, I am having difficulty getting flyers to al members in time for
entries. If you haven’t got e-mail or can’t open the attachments I send you,
please get a copy from the noticeboard, which will have plastic pockets with
the flyers or newsletters inside. Once again, check your racing calendar and if
you think there’s a meeting you would like to do keep a look out at the
noticeboard.
A cruiser
superclass series is being held at East City on 4 club nights from mid
November. Entry is $5 per night and two age groups are offered at 13 years and
under, 14 years and over. The results will be tallied over the 4 club nights
and 100% payback to the top 8 riders.
In the New Year
a 20 inch superclass series will be held with a similar format so watch out for
the flyer in January 2003.
This is a fun
club night that we like to turn into a social event. Usual time on Wednesday 18th
December, please bring a plate to share for dinner, bring your own meat to
throw on the BBQ and a drink for the parents. The club will provide a free
sausage and drink for the kids, plus a lolly scramble, fun races, and a team
relay race.
We
are also asking again for help with the BBQ. We have a few dedicated women who
cook the food every club night and that help is immensely appreciated. However,
we desperately need someone to take over the organisation of it, buying the
food etc. Sheryl Warbrooke has been doing it for years and wants/needs to pass
the job on to someone else. If you are interested in the job you will be given
guidelines to what is needed etc so it won’t be a big guessing game for you!
Unfortunately,
if we can’t find someone to take over this role we may all be starving on club
nights.
As
you know East City is holding the Nationals in 2004, a major event in our
clubs’ history. It may seem a way off but we really need to get motivated with
the organisation of it all. Sponsorship being a major issue, a sub-committee is
being formed. If you are interested in helping in some way please let Rik
Simpson know. Also if you know of anyone that would be interested in being
approached for sponsorship (big or little) tell Rik.
You all did an
awesome job selling the chocolate bars recently, with most people being very prompt
with payment. This being our first fundraising attempt in years I feel it went
extremely well. Could I have some feedback on doing it again in a few months,
or any other ideas on fundraising that you know work well?
I’m
sorry if this newsletter seems to be a constant plea for help but as in any
club we need volunteers to keep everything moving forward, with new people
comes new ideas. The more people we have helping, the less work there is for us
all to do, and don’t forget who we are doing it for!
I
hope you enjoy the rest of the year at the track and have a great Christmas.
